There is order in chaos. Take this morning for example. As I sit here at 3 something in the morning going through a major upgrade, I can't help but observe what chaos upgrades, installs, releases really are. I find myself asking - is there an opportunity here for a managed solution for administering or managing these major obstacles for small companies like my current employer? The 5 or so staff members here are in such disarray about having to be here that I find myself being here simply to avoid that frustration causing a fatal mistake. There must be a better way, and maybe that is the entrepreneur in me always looking for an opportunity.

I believe that the economy should not be the sole reason to get into, or out of, a business opportunity (whether internal project or new business). Sure it can play a factor, but maybe it plays a factor in how something gets financed vs. canceling a project all together.

Being a small company, we have the agility to work around external factors and I really like that. I've always been turned off at the "immediate money factors come first" mentality of large, over-stuffed organizations. When it's the right thing to do and is necessary for long term growth and sustainability of your organization, you should not hesitate to find the resources (financial or human) and go for it. Use the chaos in your favor...organized chaos that is.
