So I’ve resurrected my pathetic golf career lately, and let’s put it this way: I’ve
become far more terrible than even I expected. For a guy who, two years ago, could shoot low 40s with a blindfold on and Labatt as his only source of nourishment, the only thing that works for me these days is, ironically, my driver. Everything else, especially the wedges, have abandoned me to the point where I am fully capable of driving a ball ten yards short of the green and still being able to squeeze a sloppy bogey out of the deal. And that’s with a 30” gimme.
I have skills. It’s just that golf isn’t one of them.
Anyway, the internet never disappoints (mostly), and this week was no exception. To wit:
- Apparently, Michael Jackson’s funeral was sort of a big deal.
- A company has introduced what quite possibly may be the most intrusive rich-media advertising ever devised.
- Josh Clark, author of Best iPhone Apps: The Guide for Discriminating Downloaders, explains how to manage an ocean of apps on your iPhone.
- I just picked up a Nikon SB-600 Speedlight and Sto-Fen diffuser for my D90, if anyone cares. (Thanks to Paul Manoian for the tip.)
- DateLine 0.55 is a Mac app that displays a simple, elegant calendar on your OSX desktop. Basic, but like many Mac apps, very intelligently done – especially if you use this as an underlayer to Expose. (Via Dan Benjamin)
- Here are 78 photography rules for complete idiots. #20 is my favorite.
- iPhone vs. Nikon D700: one scene, two cameras. Makes you realize why pro gear is pro gear. (I think we’re all too used to lousy cellphone cam shots.)
- Did you think incandescent bulbs were history? Think again. And don’t call it a comeback.
- Usain Bolt is still ludicrously fast: this week, he ran 2000m in 19.59s on a wet track, winning with video game ease.
- Looks like Google is taking a shot at Microsoft’s core domain just a month after Microsoft took a shot a Google’s.
Finally, here is a samurai eviscerating a moving baseball with a sword. If that doesn’t say Friday, nothing does.
See you next week.
